About Us

National Institute of Technology or NIT, Jamshedpur, previously known as Regional Institute of Technology was built on 15th August in the year of 1960. The institute was established by Dr. Srikrishna Sinha.

  • This institution is the joint project made by the Government of India and the Government of Bihar in the chain of RECs or Regional Engineering College in India with the plan to produce specialized graduates of most elevated norms who can give innovative authority to the respective area.
  • It was around the first eight Regional Engineering Colleges secured as a major aspect of the Second Five-year Plan. 
  • On 27th December 2002, in the line of all different RECs of India, RIT Jamshedpur was changed over to National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur with the status of a Deemed University according to the choice of the Govt. of India.
  • The Institute has 12 divisions incorporating designing, science and humanities.
  • The Institute with 120 faculties with 3000 student, 150 regulatory and supporting staff, is an independent ground.
  • It is found on the edge of Jamshedpur on 320 sections of land of sprawling, moving bumpy, lush area.
  • The Institute is completely supported and legislated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India since first April, 2003. On 15 August 2007, NIT Jamshedpur was given the status of the Institute of National Importance through an Act of the Parliament reputed to be the NIT Act.
  • The whole syllabus of different departments is made as per the current need and expectation of the industry and society.

The Student Activity Section of the institute is highly active. College clubs include:

CES: Civil Engineering Society is an initiative taken by the 2008?2012 Batch of Civil Engineering Department, N.I.T. Jamshedpur, to provide a healthier platform, for the students of Civil Engineering to showcase their talents in their field of interest. This has greatly helped civil engineering students in their overall performances and placements. The official website of the society is www.cesnitjsr.com.

 

CSI NIT Jamshedpur is a relatively new society which was started on 1 April 2011.It conducts several activities such as conferences, exhibitions, workshops and training programmes so as to develop the IT skills of the students.

 

MES: Mechanical Engineering Society is an initiative taken by the Mechanical Engineering Department, N.I.T. Jamshedpur, to provide a healthier platform, for the students of Mechanical Engineering to showcase their talents in their field of interest.The society was formed on 5 September 2009.It consists of 400 members.It aims at "Improvement of all, keeping in mind, Involvement of all". It provides a backbone to the sprouting ideas of the budding engineers.This society is run by the students and for the students, under the able guidance of Prof.R.V.Sharma & Dr.M.K.Sinha. It organizes various technical events,workshops, quiz competitions, guest lectures, industrial visits, and improving awareness among the students.It provides everyone with enough opportunities to broaden their restraints and burgeon their ideations.

 

SAE: Society of Automotive Engineers is the SAE collegiate chapter of NIT Jamshedpur. It was started in 2007. It aims to provide a platform for students across disciplines who are passionate about automobiles and related fields. Though most student members are from the Mechanical Engineering department, students from other departments are also active in its programs. Prof. Sanjay and Prof. Shailendra Kumar, both from the Mechanical Engineering department, have been serving as faculty advisors since its inception. The chapter has taken part in national and international level competitions like Baja,FSAE,shell Eco-marathon and Efficycle.

 

NARM Robotics Club- The club aims at providing an active platform for developing the practical machine building skills of the students. Established with the tag "Together, everyone achieves more", NARM Robotics club carries the baton for NIT Jamshedpur in several national and international robotics events. The club was established with the vision to aid the Robofreaks in the Institute to participate in the popular techfests in the country and abroad.

 

CDS: Cultural and Dramatics Society is the largest club in NIT Jamshedpur. It has 150 members who take part in vocals (Eastern and Western), choreography, dancing (group and solo), dramatics (including street play and skit), anchoring and RJ, and rock bands. CDS has participation in the college National Level Cultural Fest Utkarsh. CDS conducts competitions in rock bands, choreography, vocals, and street play.

 

LDS: The Literary and Debating Society serves as a platforms where students can showcase their talents. It conducts debates, JAMs, GDs and Dumb-charades. LDS is one of the most active & happening clubs in the NIT campus, it conducts events which aim to strike the right balance between fun & much needed linguistic prowess. The club has 25 members.

 

NSS (National Service Scheme) is a society which strives to inculcate good social habits among the students. Its activities include cleaning of the campus, spreading awareness about the environment, visits to nearby slums to improve empathy towards the deprived classes, organizing Blood Donation Camps, building websites for free for nearby industries as the college is situated in Adityapur Industrial Area.

 

VEC: The Values & Ethics Club was started in 2009. This club run under the guidance of Prof. R.V.Sharma.It conducts workshop on Art of Living,Bhartiya sanskriti, guest lectures,yoga and various other programs.

 

FACES: Fine Arts Club for Engineering Students is club for those students who have passion for painting, sketching, thermocoal modeling, calligraphy, card design, collage making, and clay modeling

 

Sankalp: This group pledges to teach the students of slums for free. Students from the institute go to nearby slums and teach the kids.

 

SSS: Soft Skills Society was founded in 2007 so as to develop the communication and the personality development skills of the students. The society conducts seminars and workshops on Group Discussions, Case Study and Mock HR Interviews.

 

Zayin Sports Club promotes gaming in the college. The seven star logo of Zayin comes from its name Zayin (seven).

 

Earn and Learn Scheme: It is an initiative taken by the College Administration and the Director Dr.Rambabu Kodali to help the financially needy students of nearby villages by providing them free coaching classes in Science and Maths along with preparation for competitive examinations. The Program became active from 30 October 2013. They are taught by the selected meritorious, but financially needy students of B.Tech program. The students are in turn remunerated by the College Administration.

Festivals at the Campus :

OJASS  is the twelve month techno celebration of the college.This celebration showcases the specialized and managerial aptitude of the students.

The different events in OJASS are Technical Paper presentation, simulation, Coding, Robotics, tests and the agenda goes on.

 

Cryptex is a technological fest sorted out by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering to create IT cognizance.

 

Technica is the Annual metallurgy fest by Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.

 

Utkarsh is also a twelve month social celebration of the college. It is organised at national level and pupils from college onto every part of India take an interest.

The principal fascination of Utkarsh is "Shades" in which a room is beautified in a subject utilizing garbage only. This Event is led by the FACES club.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Scholorships for the students :

Welfare department, Govt. of Jharkhand : Welfare department of government of Jharkhand provides this scholarship every year.

 

Who can apply:

  1. Student must be of Jharkhand State.
  2. Student should belong to any of these categories-Schedule Tribe (ST), Schedule Cast (SC) or Other Backward Class (OBC).
  3. Student's Family Income from all the sources should not exceed as per the list given below:
    • Schedule Tribe (ST) or Schedule Cast (SC) :Rs 2,00,000/-
    • Backward Class (OBC) :Rs 1,00,000/-

Financial Support : Tuition fee and maintenance charges.

 

Foundation for Academic excellence and access : FAEA grants scholarships to students to facilitate undergraduate studies in arts/ commerce/ science / medical/ engineering and pursuing of other technical and professional disciplines at any university/institution/college in India.

Number of Scholarships : 50

Eligibility Criteria :

  1. Students belonging to socially and economically disadvantaged sections in the BPL category.
  2. Students who have passed Class XII from a recognized board in India.
  3. 1st year under-graduate students.

Financial Support : Tuition fee, maintenance allowance, hostel and mess charges.

Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu & Kashmir : Students belonging to the State of Jammu & Kashmir, pursuing general degree courses, medical courses, engineering courses, etc. outside the State of J&K , may apply for scholarship under this scheme, through the institute in which they are studying.

 

National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation :

  • Under this scheme, 500 National Scholarships will be awarded to eligible students with disabilities for pursuing higher academic/professional or technical qualification.
  • Scholarship of Rs 1000/-p.m. for hostellers and Rs700/-p.m. for day scholars undertaking professional courses at graduation and higher level and Rs700/-p.m. for hostellers and Rs.400/-p.m. for day scholars pursuing Diploma/Certificate level professional courses. Course fee is reimbursed upto ceiling of Rs 10,000/-per year.

 

NTPC scholarship for engineering students :

Number of Scholarships : 35(20 SC, 10 ST and 05 PC)

Eligibility Criteria :

  • Students belonging to SC/ST/Physically Challenged categories (Visually Handicapped/ Hearing Handicapped/ Orthopaedically Handicapped) and pursuing 4 years full time degree course in Engineering in the disciplines of Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Computer Science, Electronics / Telecommunication from a college/ university/ institute.
  • They should not be receiving any financial aid or assistance from any source.

Financial Support : The amount of scholarship is Rs 1500/- P.M.

 

Indian Oil Educational Scholarship Scheme : IndianOil offers 2600 Scholarships for Students of 10+/ITI, Engineering, MBBS & MBA Courses on merit-cum-means basis pursuing full time/regular courses (not correspondence/distance/online mode) in these streams & studying in Schools / Colleges / Institutions / Universities recognized by MCI / AICTE / State Education Boards / State Govt. / ICSE / ISC / CBSE / Central Govt. / Association of Indian universities.

 

CDIF Scholarship Program TATA CUMMINS : This scholarship is awarded to the students from socially and economically disadvantaged background. The scholarship program is entitled for students pursuing Diploma/ Degree in Engineering/ other professional degree courses from various locations where Cummins Group Company has presence.

 

Merit Cum Means Scholarship : The objective of the Scheme is to provide financial assistance to the poor and meritorious students belonging to minority communities to enable them to pursue professional and technical courses. These scholarships are available for studies in India only and are awarded through an Agency designated by the State Government/UT Administration for this purpose.

 

O.P. Jindal Engineering and Management Scholarships (OPJEMS) : First 3 toppers of 2nd, 3rd and 4th year based on the academic performance in the previous year, of the following streams are eligible:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering

Post-Matric Scholarships for Students belonging to the Minority Communities : The objective of the scheme is to award scholarships to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of minority community so as to provide them better opportunities for higher education, increase their rate of attainment in higher education and enhance their employability.

 

Scholarship of ONGC limited, Dehradun : Electrical & Mechanical Engineering topper gets this scholarship after 6th semester.

  2. Annual income of parents from all sources should not be more than Rs 1.5 lakhs ( i.e. Rs 12,000/- per month).
